What is Lampworking?

Lampworking, also known as flame-working, is the ancient art of melting glass on a hot torch, wrapping it around a mandrel and shaping it into beads or sculpting it into shapes and other forms.

There are a myriad combinations of colours and types of glass that can be mixed with precious metal to create some truly stunning effects. For bead making we have a selection of mandrel sizes so you can even make beads to fit Pandora or Troll bracelets. Our workshops include:

  • Health and Safety demonstration
  • All necessary protective equipment required while at the torch
  • All the materials required to create your items
  • Tuition for the chosen workshop; beads or sculpting
  • Kiln annealing of items made on the day
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the session (we are a 5 start food hygiene rated catering venue too)

How to book

Workshops are run Thursdays through Sundays inclusive. We tend to be booked 2 to 3 months ahead.

Either drop us an email and pay on the day or pay through our online shop. We will then contact you to book your session in at a date that works for you.

How many people will be on the course?

We keep the number of delegates small, 2 maximum with bead making, 1 person with sculpting. We do not mix people who do not know each other. When you book if you are booking for yourself or a group of friends/relatives, those people will be the only ones on your session. Small groups give you maximum torch time and a relaxed atmosphere in which to be creative.

Jill will be your tutor. Jill and John both hold industry recognised professional training qualifications. This means not only do they know their subject, but more importantly how to share it with others in a form that is easy to pick up and in a fun, relaxing and enjoyable way.
