Description

What is lampworking?

Lampworking, also known as flameworking, is the ancient art of melting glass on a hot torch, wrapping it around a mandrel and shaping it into beads. There are a myriad of combinations of colours and types of glass that can be mixed with precious metal to create some truly stunning effects. We have a selection of mandrel sizes so you can even make beads to fit Pandora or Troll bracelets.

About your workshop experience

When you book this half-day introductory workshop on your own it will last 3 hours and you will have the hot torch all to yourself. If you book with a friend the workshop will be 4 hours and you will share torch time.

This workshop includes:

  • Health and Safety demonstration of beadmaking
  • All of the necessary protective equipment required to wear while at the torch
  • All of the materials required to create your beads
  • Tuition for a selection of bead styles and designs
  • Kiln annealing of all beads made on the day (beads can be collected or posted to you after they have been annealed)
  • Tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day (we are a 5 star food hygiene rated catering venue too!)

What will I make?

This depends on the speed you work at, however most people will make between 5 – 7 individual beads each.

Course Dates

Dates are very flexible; please get in touch for the next available date. We can run them Thursdays through Sundays inclusive.

There is a 12 month expiry from date of purchase on booking in your session. Note we typically have a 2/3 month lead time when booking your workshop date.

Important – please wear closed-toe shoes as you will be working in a studio with glass, and natural fibre clothing if possible.
