Description
What is lampworking?
Lampworking, also known as flame working, is the ancient art of melting glass on a hot torch, wrapping it around a mandrel and shaping it into beads or sculpting into other forms. There are a myriad of combinations of colours and types of glass that can be mixed with precious metal to create some truly stunning effects
About your workshop experience
In this workshop you will learn to melt Borosilicate glass rods at the torch and sculpt into Seahorse forms. This is a great follow on from the Lampworked Seaweed workshop. If you have not attended the Seaweed workshop, depending on your skill level and speed, we may get the opportunity to create a small piece of seaweed that the seahorse can be attached to Alternatively a small piece of glass seaweed will be provided to finish your piece.
This workshop includes:
- Health and Safety demonstration of beadmaking
- All of the necessary protective equipment required to wear while at the torch
- All of the materials required to create your beads
- Tuition for using the main torch and the smaller Smiths Little Torch
- All of the materials and tools required to create your Seahorse
- Kiln annealing of all pieces made on the day
- Tea, coffee and biscuits throughout the day plus lunch (we are a 5 star food hygiene rated catering venue too!)
- Techniques covered will depend on your experience and speed
What will I make?
Techniques covered and number of pieces made will depend on your experience and speed Most people will make at least two seahorses and a small piece of seaweed.
